Simulation of horizontal sporadic E layer movement driven by atmospheric tides

چکیده

Abstract The present study aims to reveal horizontal sporadic E (Es) movements driven by atmospheric diurnal/semi-diurnal tides using a three-dimensional (3D) ionospheric model. Horizontal Es have been investigated since the mid-twentieth century, variety of 1D/2D observational techniques. However, there are no comprehensive studies that explain different results asserted observations. Herein, we performed 3D simulations at mid- and low-latitudes. This is first investigate from perspective. We found layers constrained zonal-wind shear nodes above $$\sim$$ ∼ 110 km, but transported winds below km. descend with downward tidal phases move southward. descending westward as they lag behind nodes. stagnate 100 km semi-diurnal tides. In general, stagnating do not eastward. because diffuse vertically in eastward/northward wind region or early stage formation eastward/southward region. movement tendency agreed provided general explanation for previous Graphic

Longitudinal variation of the E-region electric fields caused by atmospheric tides

[1] Polarization electric fields created by the Eand Fregion dynamos cause the uplift of F-region plasma. The subsequent redistribution of that plasma along the magnetic field lines creates the equatorial ionospheric anomaly (EIA). Observations of the post-sunset EIA made by the IMAGE and TIMED satellites are compared here with CHAMP, Ørsted and SAC-C observations of the noontime equatorial ele...

Fortnightly atmospheric tides forced by spring and neap tides in coastal waters

The influence of sea surface temperature (SST) on atmospheric processes over the open ocean has been well documented. However, atmospheric responses to SST in coastal waters are poorly understood. Oceanic stratification (and consequently, SST) in coastal waters largely depends on the fortnightly spring-neap tidal cycle, because of variations in vertical tidal mixing. Here we investigate how cha...

Distant horizontal ground observation: atmospheric perturbation simulation and image restoration

Atmospheric perturbation is certainly the most important degradation when observing a scene horizontally at a distance of several kilometers. Because such images with short time exposure are expensive to obtain, they have to be simulated. The goal of this paper is to adapt simulation and restoration of images perturbated by atmospheric turbulence to the case of horizontal ground observation at ...

Experimental determination of zonal winds driven by tides.

We describe a new phenomenon of zonal wind generation by tidal forcing. Following a recent theoretical and numerical analysis [A. Tilgner, Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 194501 (2007)], we present the first experimental evidence that the nonlinear self-interaction of a tidally forced inertial mode can drive an intense axisymmetric flow in a rotating deformed sphere. Systematic measurements of zonal flows...

Exalting in atmospheric tides as earthquake precursor

During February–March 1998, we observed a significant increase (6–8 dB) in the electric field of the CZE (f = 270 kHz, Czech Republic) broadcasting station at a site named AS and located in central Italy. On 13 March 1998 an earthquake (M = 5.2) occurred in Slovenia, starting a strong seismic crisis (M = 6.0 on 12 April, M = 5.1 on 6 May). The distances of the epicentres from the radio receiver...
